Migrating your data from the previous version of SWELL

<p>If you were using an older version of SWELL (sometimes called "v1"), you can bring your data into the new SWELL in about a minute using our self-service migration tool.</p>


<h2>Before you start</h2>

<p>You'll need:</p>

<ul>

<li>Your original SWELL email address</li>

<li>Your original SWELL password, OR access to that email inbox (for the magic-link fallback)</li>

<li>About 60 seconds of uninterrupted time</li>

</ul>


<h2>How to migrate</h2>

<ol>

<li>Go to <a href="https://dashboard.swellsystem.com/migrate-from-v1">https://dashboard.swellsystem.com/migrate-from-v1</a></li>

<li><strong>Enter your original SWELL email.</strong> We'll verify the account exists.</li>

<li><strong>Enter your original password.</strong> If you've forgotten it, click "Forgot your password? Email me a magic link" and we'll send a one-time link to your email.</li>

<li><strong>Review your brands.</strong> If you had multiple businesses or brands set up in the old SWELL, you'll see them all listed. Check the ones you want to bring over and uncheck any you'd rather leave behind. Empty brands (no clients, projects, or data) are skipped by default.</li>

<li><strong>Click Migrate.</strong> Most migrations take 10–30 seconds. Larger accounts may take up to a minute or two.</li>

<li><strong>You're logged in.</strong> When migration finishes you'll be automatically signed into the new SWELL with everything in place.</li>

<h2>What gets migrated</h2>

<p>The migration tool brings over:</p>

<ul>

<li>Clients and contacts</li>

<li>Leads and your sales pipeline</li>

<li>Projects and tasks</li>

<li>Time entries (grouped under a "Legacy Time Tracking" project if they weren't linked to a specific project in the old SWELL)</li>

<li>Invoices, invoice line items, and payments</li>

<li>Estimates</li>

<li>Expenses</li>

<li>Proposals</li>

<li>Forms and form submissions</li>

</ul>


<h2>After the migration</h2>

<p><strong>Your original SWELL account stays up.</strong> The migration only reads your data — nothing gets deleted from the old version. You can log back into the old SWELL if you need to verify something.</p>


<p><strong>See your migration receipt.</strong> Inside the new SWELL, go to <strong>Profile &rarr; Migration Receipt</strong> to see exactly what was brought over, including entity counts and a reference number you can use if you ever need support.</p>


<h2>Things that don't automatically migrate</h2>

<ul>

<li><strong>Custom phone numbers</strong> (Twilio integration) — not available in the new SWELL yet</li>

<li><strong>Yodlee banking integration</strong> — not available in the new SWELL yet</li>

<li><strong>Custom whitelabel brand add-ons</strong> — replaced by the new tenant-level branding tools. You can set up colors, logos, and custom domains in the new SWELL's tenant settings.</li>

<li><strong>Sub-teams within a brand</strong> — the new SWELL uses direct user membership instead. You can re-invite team members from the tenant settings.</li>

<li><strong>Complex form schemas</strong> — your form shells come over, but form fields need to be rebuilt using the new form builder (it's drag-and-drop and much easier to work with).</li>

<h2>FAQ</h2>


<h3>Will this delete my original SWELL data?</h3>

<p>No. The migration tool only reads from the old system — your data stays intact on both sides.</p>


<h3>What if something goes wrong during migration?</h3>

<p>Look at your migration receipt at <strong>Profile &rarr; Migration Receipt</strong>. Take a screenshot and email it to <a href="mailto:support@swellsystem.com">support@swellsystem.com</a> with your original SWELL email address. We'll investigate personally.</p>


<h3>I have multiple brands — can I migrate them one at a time?</h3>

<p>Yes. On the preview screen, uncheck the ones you don't want to migrate yet. You can come back later and migrate more — the tool won't create duplicate data if you run it twice.</p>


<h3>Can I undo the migration and start over?</h3>

<p>If you want to try a fresh migration, contact support. We can clear out the migrated data so you can start clean. Your original SWELL account is always untouched.</p>


<h3>I got an "account not found" error but I definitely had a SWELL account.</h3>

<p>You may have signed up with a different email originally — try any alternate addresses you might have used. If you're certain, contact support with the email you're trying and we'll look it up manually.</p>


<h3>The magic link never arrived.</h3>

<p>Check your spam folder. If it's still missing after 5 minutes, your email on file may be out of date. Contact support and we'll help.</p>


<h3>I think I had a SWELL account but I'm not sure.</h3>

<p>No problem — contact support at <a href="mailto:support@swellsystem.com">support@swellsystem.com</a> with the emails you might have used and we'll search our records for you. If you had the platform confused with another tool (it happens — several products have similar names and features), we'll let you know.</p>
